(Aljazeera) — Somali rebel group al-Shabab says it has killed 43 soldiers in an attack on a base of Ethiopian troops serving with the African Union’s AMISOM force Somalia.

The town of Halgan, where Thursday’s attack occurred, lies in the Hiraan region of central Somalia, about 300km north of the capital Mogadishu.

“Our fighters stormed the Halgan base of AMISOM … We killed 43 AU soldiers from Ethiopia in the fighting,” Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al-Shabab’s military operations spokesperson, told Reuters news agency.

He said “several” al-Shabab fighters had died in the raid but he did not give a figure.

“It was a huge blast. It destroyed the gate and parts of the base,” he said.

Residents said they heard a huge explosion at the base and a heavy exchange of gunfire shortly before dawn.

“Al-Shabab says they drove a car equipped with a suicide bomb into the base followed by armed men storming the base and killing the soldiers,” said Mohamed Adow, reporting from Kenya’s capital Nairobi.

An AMISOM spokesman said that there was “an attempted attack” at the base in Halgan.

He said AMISOM forces were still in charge of the base, according to Adow.

Al-Shabab often launches gun and bomb attacks on officials, Somali security forces and AMISOM in an effort to topple the government and impose its own brand of government on Somalia.

In January, Kenyan troops serving with AMISOM suffered heavy losses when al-Shabab made a dawn raid on their camp in El Adde, near the Kenyan border.

Al-Shabab said it killed more than 100 soldiers but Kenya gave no exact casualty figure.

Only 160ha of land will be used for development of a new greenhouse whereas the remaining land will be used for building offices, pack house, grading hall, cold room and other facilities.

A Dutch documentary program about 40 minutes on a flower farm in Ziway, Ethiopia, owned by the Sher flower farm a multi-million company run by father and daughter from Holland, was shown on Holland TV last week. The documentary was translated by Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) in Amharic for its Ethiopian audience. All who care about planet earth and its inhabitants need to watch it and take a clear stand !!!

Sher came to Ethiopia after 15 years in Kenya attracted among other things by the weather and abundant Fresh Water. In the1970s I used to visit my uncle there and the memory of the lake and the dried fish what we call it “Yeasa Kwanta” is still fresh in my memory.

On the documentary  people on the surrounding were asked about the river and lake. An Oromo young woman watering her cattle  in the nearby river told viewers that the river we saw  was a river after  rain and when there is no rain the river is dry. Nothing for the cattle !!!

Nearby  Sher is pumping water for its farm. There is a battle between Valentine/Rose and humans/animals. Sher tried to hide its pumping stations from the camera but its negative impact on the surroundings, human beings and animals, is clear for all to see.

During the 2013/14 fiscal year, the horticulture sector in general had gained 245 million dollars, according to Ethiopian Horticulture Development Agency (EHDA).

During the 2013/14 fiscal year, the horticulture sector in general had gained 245 million dollars, according to Ethiopian Horticulture Development Agency (EHDA).

Those who were brave enough to be interviewed told how the lake surface area decreased   in  size and depth  from year to year. Sher is abusing the fresh water to increase its profit. Current  consumption of water is estimated on the documentary to be of 2000 Olympic size stadium at the current farm size of 1000 football stadium about 500 hectare. This has been going on since 2005. On the  last decade the environmental damage to Ziway lake and its surroundings as a resul of Sher greed  is tremendous. Independent group should take is as a case study !!!

Eating fish which is a common food in the area can  expose you to deadly diseases no doubt. The doctor in the area has confirmed rare diseases which he is not sure of its source. If the fish died of poisoning from chemicals you will  have it by eating fish cooked or raw. Animals will have it from grazing and drinking in the surrounding. The food cycle is poisoned !!!!

Sher farm in Adami Tulu

Sher farm in Adami Tulu

People and fish/animals are being poisoned by untreated water from the Sher farm. The company is free to poison the environment. It should get a “Poisoning Certificate” not a ” Fairtrade Certificate” it hangs on its wall.

The health hazard by workers in sher farm is clear from the documentary. Those who have no other job opportunity estimated 10,000 in the farm, taking such risk is not surprising. What scary is the damage done to the the lake/river and its inhabitants.

Before accepting any responsibility for the damage done for a decade Sher is on its way to expand or add 650 hectare which is 1300 football stadium to produce 1.5 billion flowers per year. That means the devastation of lake Ziway and its surrounding is going to be doubled or tripled !! No one is held accountable as of now !!!

The current devastating drought and flooding in Ethiopia  will get much worst by companies like Sher that cares for profit only at the expense of the environment. If the world agrees to stop Fossil Fuel we can stop also the production of Sher Deadly Roses in Ethiopia !!!!  Sher is anti-Environment !!!!!

#Oromoprotests: The “Oromo Street” and Africa’s Counter-Protest State

Etana Habte, Special to Addis Standard

oromo-protests-ethiopia

Part I

Throughout Africa, increasing numbers of people are fundamentally altering the power structure of urban centers, transforming the very nexus of these centers as government sites of socio-political stability, economic development and investment, into sites of demonstrations and demands for justice and socio-political change.

African streets are not new to African protesters demanding socio-political changes. All the same, Africa is in an ‘epoch of the counter-protest state’. In the first part of this series of reflections – Post 2005 Ethiopia: EPRDF’s architecture of repression – I explore in historic perspectives (particularly with developments in Oromia regional state) the Ethiopian government’s road to becoming a counter-protest state, and proceed to discuss the systematic ways in which the regime further bolstered its role as a counter-protest state that now threatens to destabilize the country, and perhaps the Horn of Africa.

Out in the streets

“Yesterday’s Afro-pessimism and today’s Afro-optimism equally misrepresent the actual political transformations unfolding across the continent,” wrote Adam Branch and Rachariah Mapilly, in their Africa Uprising: Popular protest and Political Change.  The authors argue that either perspective enforces a spurious binary: overemphasising elites to marginalize majorities of African populations.

In the past decade, increasing numbers of peoples have altered the power structure of urban centers throughout Africa by making these centers the sites of demonstrations and demands for social change, taking to the so-called ‘streets’ to seek fundamental transformations in the political systems of their respective countries. Two waves of protests swept across the continent: those of the late colonial era (1950s and 60s), and those of the de- or post-colonial era (1980s and 1990s) when formal and informal economies (and combinations of the two, for example, in Nigeria) became rooted in national panoramas. Broadly, accordingly to Branch and Mapilly, the first waves seemed to bring an end to colonialism, and the second attempted to destroy the dominant architecture of one-party political systems, opening doors for multi-party systems in some countries.

In countries where the idea of a central government is experienced and perceived with less primacy to daily life than in urban seats of power, the important questions are: what is ‘the street’ and where is it, and what is its role in popular protests? There appears to be an indelible link between the expansion of the ‘security state’ in Africa – in this case evolving into a counter-protest state – and a rise of new modes of popular protests that are now sweeping both urban and rural (the later previously imagined as being isolated) communities.

Issues of race, identity, and rising school fees are factors contributing to the continuous student protests in South Africa. In North Africa, between December 2010 and March 2011 waves of protests swept from Tunisia to Egypt and Libya, the later effectively turning the protests into a protracted armed conflict that is still ravaging the country

The 2012 “Occupy Nigeria movement was a series of socio-political protests that began as a public response to the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government. Protest sites nationally included the city of Kano in the North and Ojota (part of metropolitan Lagos in the South), Abuja, and internationally, at the Nigerian High Commission in London, UK. The November 2008 protests in Jos State, Nigeria, over local election results ended after two days with the deployment of the Nigerian Army. Here in Ethiopia, urban based popular protests in 2005 that followed a disputed national election results was brutally brought down.

Post 2005 Ethiopia: EPRDF’s architecture of repression

The post 2005 era in Ethiopia marked a period when the incumbent began to undergo the most significant reorientation of its power since 1991. As was discussed in detail in Aalen and Tronvoll’s, “The 2008 Ethiopian Local Elections: The Return of Electoral Authoritarianism,” after the end of popular upheavals following the 2005 elections the regime developed “a deliberate plan in order to prevent any future large-scale protest” opposing its grip on power.

“The EPRDF constructed a counter-protest state that combined a single ideological project – developmentalism – with an intensive effort at social control through a greatly expanded party,” Branch and Mapilly wrote.

Subsequently, the regime in Ethiopia started to pursue two methods to build Ethiopia as a counter-protest-state. The first was to manipulate the legal system. Here the judiciary was effectively constricted into being a mere extension of the executive branch of the regime. The introduction of ‘a series of highly restrictive’ laws targeted the media, civil society organizations, NGOs and opposition political parties. It also restricted financial sources and participation in human rights issues for civil society and NGOs. The latter’s work, in particular in investigating and reporting human rights abuses was criminalized by the proclamation. In addition the draconian Anti Terrorism Proclamation effectively severed any form of dissent against the incumbent. After 2005, political opposition party members, sympathizers and leaders came under direct criticism by the regime as ‘anti-peace,’ ‘anti-development,’ ‘terrorists’ and faced charges of terrorism or treason. The result was that between 2005 and 2015, “Ethiopia has become a model of electoral authoritarianism in which manipulated multi-party elections are a means to sustain power,” according to Branch and Mapilly.

Given Ethiopia’s entry into a remarkable period in 2006 of launching ‘an era of developmentalism,’ but more appropriately an era of vigorously building a counter-protest state, very few seem to have thought that protests would become a rare phenomena over the next decade. The regime developed one of the most censorious regulatory systems for the media in Africa. The two previously mentioned proclamations, one ostensibly designed to fight terrorism, and the other to mask the scope and reach of charitable projects, are in reality used to stifle dissenting voices. Between 2006 and 2015 countless opposition politicians and their supporters, journalists, bloggers, and activists were arrested and charged with ‘crimes’ ranging from ‘terrorism’ to ‘treason.’

That said, a lot has been said on how, nationally, the EPRDF-led regime has put in place several mechanisms that helped it silence any form of dissent. But little is mentioned on how the EPRDF built a brutal architecture of repression and bolstered its counter protest state over the last decade in Oromia, the scene of the last formidable opposition to the party’s grip in power.

EPRDF’s counter-protest state in Oromia

In the regime’s parlance it is ‘decentralization of power’ down the hierarchical administrative structures of the state. But for anyone with a critical look into Ethiopia’s politics, EPRDF began its journey into a counter-protest state with methodical, calculated rounds of federal restructuring initially under the Transitional Government of Ethiopia (TGE), 1991-1994. That journey was completed with the creation of nine federal states. But thanks to subsequent (and unrelenting) manipulations, that arrangement of decentralization of power eventually became a mere pattern of expanding the central government’s tools of control over the masses within the federated states. In 2001, the regime set in motion a second series of rounds when it launched the District Level Decentralization Program (DLDP) in the name of ‘increasing the administrative autonomy and capacity of district or Wereda administrations’. But a close look into the conduct of DLDP reveals that it was a precursor of the mechanism that eventually enabled the central government to exert unlimited control over the regional structures.

The regime’s expansion of its arms of control reached a new high when, in 2006, it began constructing its socio-political framework by declaring itself a ‘developmental state’. The program necessitated the implementation of various forms of administrative and political restructuring at Kebele – the smaller unites of local government – levels. As was discussed in Rony Emmeneger et al, Decentralization to the Household: expansion and limits of state power in rural Oromia, in rural parts of Ethiopia, Kebele and its organs have been the most conspicuous incarnation of the state.

“Three reforms of the kebele stand out in particular in the last decade. First, legislative councils up to 300 members tasked with appointing and overseeing the kebele executive cabinet were elected for the first time in the April 2008 elections. Second, kebele administrative capabilities were enhanced with the appointment of more qualified civil servants as well as a kebele manager. Third, a sub-kebele structure that effectively fuses party and state personnel and interests was established in many rural areas of Tigray, Amhara, Oromia and SNNPR. … the remaking of kebele is clearly driven by an expansion of bureaucratic structures of control, which are a reminder of the Derg’s project of “encadrement.”

Despite the regime’s parlance of “devolving” power to local governments through decentralization, a comparative study (such as Alula Pankhurst’s, Enhancing understanding of local accountability mechanisms in Ethiopia: protecting basic services project. PBS II Preparation Studies) and other studies carried out in different regional states determine that local government’s service delivery remained one of the most centralized, top-down style, strictly government controlled and party-dictated affair.

The best example of boundaries that the regime blurred between the state and party structures can be seen in the creation of a door of intrusion into the daily lives of people. This can be seen from the introduction of the office ofKebele manager, an office responsible for supervision of all ‘development’ activities, which is answerable to Wereda – a de facto placement of counter power to Kebele chairmen. It is widely understood as a structure of vertical accountability.

In truth therefore the official state narrative of ‘decentralization’ aimed at achieving participatory and accountable local administrations turned out to be a guise for the regime’s highly centralized party structures; a mechanism to mobilize large numbers of human resources to increase the ruling party’s ability to go deep into household levels; and spy on (and coerce) people into party membership – ultimately consolidating its mechanisms of control within each household.

Looking into the case in Oromia alone, between 2006 and 2015 EPRDF has constructed sub-Kebele institutions which are by far stronger than Kebele administrations, creating a convoluted and tension-ridden social environment where the state registered and harangued members of households into party cells bearing names related to ‘development’.

It was through the creation of these sub-Kebele institutions known as Gooxii (hamlet) and Garee (team or group) that the regional government enhanced the state-party controlled administrative system. Accordingly, the Kebele was divided territorially into groups of households; the Gooxii was comprised of 60-90 households, (each Gooxii consists three Garee). Each Garee brings together 20 to 30 households. The Garee was constituted by family heads, Abbaa-warraa, who reside within the Garee territory. They have been supervised and led by a committee of five whom they elected themselves. At the higher level, a Gooxii committee of five controls three Garee and binds them with Kebele, creating a channel of accountability among Garee committee, Gooxii committee and Kebele officials.

Although the Oromia regional state officially dismissed the committees of Gooxii in 2008 and put Garee committees under direct control of Kebele administration ‘it continued to exist as a geographical principle of organizing the Garee,” according to Alula Pankhurst’s paper.  Having achieved Kebele administration reform by establishing sub-Kebeleinstitutions and placing them all under strict, authoritarian and highly centralized party structure, the regime quickly chained them to the older, a four-tier institutional set up (regional states, zones, wereda/district, kebele).

Such is how the ruling EPRDF – using its member party the OPDO – built a new architecture of repression and control in Oromia in the name of development and decentralizing local administrations for participatory and accountable systems whose praxis was mobilizing for ‘development’.

As soon as they were created Gooxii and Garee became highly politicized tools of control and repression. A number of reports by rights groups described them as strong mechanisms of suppression against political dissent.

These institutions have also marshalled people for forced labor, imposed heavy fines for any absences (or even imprisoned people), called for protracted political meetings, monitored speeches, and restricted people’s freedom of movement.

Findings from Human Rights Watch informed by empirical data drawn from months of field research in various parts of Oromia state that:

Garee officials in many communities have been instructed by Got [Gooxii], Kebele and Woreda officials to gather information about individuals who make comments they believe to be critical of or hostile towards the government in public meetings or even during private conversations. …several current and former Got and Garee officials from several rural Kebeles confirmed that they gathered such information about the households under their supervision. Most claimed that they were deeply reluctant to do so but felt they had no choice. One Garee committee member from East Wollega said, “They said that these Garee were for development work, but the actual thing is for watching each other. They tell us to report whatever we observe, but I avoid doing that. I try to solve problems myself and avoid reporting because [the information] is usually used for other purposes.… People who speak their minds are noted. We report what people said and who said it.”

Awakening the giant?

In the course of creating highly accelerated invasive mechanisms into the everyday lives of the Oromo people and their households, between 2006 and 2015 the regime has (unknowingly) helped the creation of at least two trends across the Oromia regional state.

First, it fomented rising political consciousness among the Oromo people. By indoctrinating coercion into their daily lives and, through systems of control, not only did the regime expose to the people what it fears the most, but it helped them understand why. Boring, repetitive, and lengthy political meetings, close scrutiny of dissenting voices, demands for written reports from every household when guests arrive have awakened even the semi-educated Oromo youth and taught them at least two things: that there is some potential force of which the regime has been so fearful and therefore watchful, and above all the fact that support from rural communities is necessary for its legitimacy.

Although the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) since it was systematically ousted from the TGE in 1992 (and was eventually designated by Ethiopia’s parliament as a terrorist organization), has had no physical presence in Oromia in any organizational form, both the regime and the OLF itself equally insisted – for their own political gains – that the OLF has been functioning through underground political cells. (The former because OLF has been an easy, but useful tool to stifle and criminalize any Oromo dissenting voice). But despite such sinister machinations by the regime, it did not seem to have taken long before the Oromo people came to understand that they constituted the strongest force of which the regime has been so fearful. This fear was not related to opposition parties either; these parties had been denied access to the public, had most of their members imprisoned or exiled, and their offices forced to close. The regime’s fear was directly related to the rising, ever-growing, and coherently progressing Oromo nationalism centerd in the strong identity of the Oromo nation: Oromumaa (Oromoness).

Second, through its intrusive mechanisms of repression, and unwillingness to give even small breathing space for the politically conscious nationalists, (even when their voices were seemingly subdued), EPRDF took public grievances to highest level, converting the conditions under which the youth in rural Oromia became ready to look for alternative political forces. Oromo peasants and urban dwellers that were fatigued with EPRDF rule began to seek alternative ways of political mobilization, especially during election campaigns. This latter case is evidenced in the run up to the 2015 national election. The only home-based Oromo opposition political party, the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC), was able to mobilize hundreds of thousands of people despite the fact that it was denied access to the people and almost all of its offices in the region had been closed in the preceding years. The regime’s intent to rule through climate of fear ushered in an Oromo political awareness capable of striking at the regime’s lack of legitimacy.

In Oromia region, access to state services, employment, promotion in civil service, opportunities of further education, prospects of graduate and postgraduate studies, chances to secure urban land and any form of business licenses have long become highly dependent on party membership. Non-OPDO/EPRDF members in rural towns and urban centers have scant chance of benefitting from any advantages related to these opportunities. At the same time, opposition members and sympathizers, and even highly critical individuals who had been denied access to lots of opportunities were invited into membership. The rank and file membership of OPDO dramatically swelled in the post 2005 period.

This is one example of a central government’s attempt to apply a national framework to a street that has neither experienced nor perceived a credible socio-political framework – save for repression and abuses. But in recent months the same street became the “Oromo Street”, derailing Africa’s biggest counter-protest state.

Taking the recent #OromoProtests as a point of departure, the second part of this series explores a more recent surge of popular protests, the socio-political architecture in which #OromoProtests first took shape.

struggleThe Oromo people are survived the lethal colonialist rule of previous one (they change the Oromo name from Tolesa and Gemechu to Getnet and Gebremeskel and they change the name of our town namely Finfinnee to Addis Abeba, Bishoftu to Dabrezeit and Adama to Nazret). The current colonialist TPLF elite plays in multiple cards and faces (mixing up the definition of Oromo people goal self-determination, statehood, sovereignty, and democracy, and creating dysfunctional organization like OPDO to distract the real goal of the struggle). But We Oromo people have to be proud to be an Oromo by challenging all those obstacles and keeping our determination intact for freedom with limited resources and absence of external assistance.

African countries today face greater challenges to peace and stability than ever before with a volatile mix of insecurity, instability, corrupt political institutions and poverty. Alarmingly, most of these countries lack the political will to make and maintain peace agreements, and thus have fallen prey to continuous armed ethnic conflict. (Monty Marshall, 2003) This is partly due to ineffective conflict management.

The Ethiopian government (TPLF) try to teach us and also try to follow the path of South Africa and Nigeria. South Africa is made up of whites, indigenous Africans, coloreds, and Indians.  The blacks form the majority of the population with about 30 million people, the whites 5 million, and the coloreds and Indians share 3 million. The country has about 11 linguistic groups, but English is the official language. Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country with about 120 million people. It is home to 250 linguistic groups, but English is also Nigeria’s chosen official language Although most of the ethnic groups are very tiny, three ethnic groups constitute somewhere between 60 and 70 percent of the population. The Hausa-Fulani ethnic groups count for 30 percent of the population, the Yorubas about 20 per cent and the Igbos about 18 percent

Both countries (Both Nigeria and South Africa) bear the responsibility to steer the continent away from the repression of authoritarian governments towards a path of social and economic development and good governance. Interestingly, the two countries are also driven by a similar political strategies to manage conflict through national reconciliation, consensus building and economic development. The dual processes of transition and transformation need nothing less than a vibrant economy in which the basic needs of citizens are taken care of.

TPLF is sending his cadres to Nigeria and south Africa to learn about those political transformation in order to  cheat western world to enhance cash flow and internally oppressing all types of opposition, silencing critical voices like Mr. Bekele Gerba, killing, torturing and imprisoning innocent civilians. The TPLF is also try to tell us about the economic growth of the country (I think they are mixing millionaires of TPLF elite with the country) while millions of peoples in Ethiopian empire facing imminent famines.  Wake up TPLF leaders it is 21st century (what does it mean is homework for you).

People like TPLF leaders are those who never change no matter how much one tries to explain to them about the brutality of their ruling system and barbaric actions of their military and special commandos. This article expose the failed policy of the TPLF and their new destructive plan to slow-down the Oromo people movement for freedom.

Medical definition of fibrosis and cirrhosis is: Hepatic fibrosis occurs in response to chronic liver injury. The response to liver injury includes collapse of hepatic lobules, formation of fibrous septae, and hepatocyte regeneration with nodule formation. Hepatic fibrosis is reversible. Cirrhosis represents a late stage of progressive hepatic fibrosis characterized by distortion of the hepatic architecture and the formation of regenerative nodules. It is generally considered to be irreversible in its advanced stages, at which point the only treatment option will be liver transplantation or death.

TPLF is now arrived on the top of the decisive treatment option (identical process of cirrhosis). The OPDO and other artificial organization mission is failed, traitors and collaborators are fail to fulfill their mission, military and security forces are demotivated because of fierce resistance from freedom fighters like Qeerroo and WBO, awareness of the people is much greater than TPLF kitchen cabinet policy, international community are fade-up of the pathological lies of TPLF leaders, media information is faster than colonialist destructive actions, innocent civilians are daily the primary victim of the TPLF policy….etc.  So the best remedy to save the TPLF from death will be transplantation, but the problem is there is no matched organ is/will found. So, the TPLF is now hospitalized in palliative center and awaiting unpleasant death. Unfortunately the TPLF is still working hard from dying bed to defend his destructive policy through his loyalist (traitors and collaborators) instead of participating in the restoration of historical justice for the respect of human rights for all human beings and to safe his Seoul.

According to my tangible information the TPLF government  are investing  40 million dollars to implement his last mission. The main core of the mission is to destroy unity among Oromo’s . According to the insiders the short and long term enemy of the TPLF power is the force behind the unity of Oromo people.  Again the insiders expose the taxonomy of government plan to implement his mission.

  • Strengthen the TPLF messengers by any means possible (in the name of Oromo diaspora, in the name of investment, by recruiting individuals from diaspora through special accommodation like house in the capital city, free movement between foreign countries and homeland ).
  • Maximizing the destructive propaganda of the Oromo unity through available medias (by hiding their real name behind pal talk, through fake name of Facebook, by sending indirect message through TV and radio to demoralize the real fighters and dedicated individuals).
  • Eradicating OLF as an organization, as an ideology and as an individual member of the OLF. According to insiders to fulfill this special mission the government is ready to put extra bonus for every single mission accomplished.  The government emphasizes again on the protocol of accomplishment (redirecting the goal of Oromo people from freedom fighter to economical survivors,  blackmailing their leaders and members, denying any activities of the organization, distributing and exaggerating  the failurity of the organization and minimizing their achievement).
  • Maximizing the economical imbalance between the Oromo people. Supporting by any means possible the trustful individual and force them to influence the poor majority to respect the system and abide by their master colonialist law.
  • Strict control of all Oromo intellectuals activities inside and outside the country.  If they are remain on the uncompromised path they have to be humiliated and destroyed (Bekele Gerba was mentioned as an example-information according to insider).
  • Creating weak political organizations as much as possible to enhance the confusion among Oromo’s. The content of organization has to be (opportunistic leader without dedication but tendency to individual economic thirsty, record less individuals in the history of struggle against colonialism and malignant opponent of OLF stand).
  • Full and Faster reaction to the peoples demand to calm the Oromo movement and to create big confusion about the definition of freedom among Oromo’s. But the demand has to be listed in the external-core-category.

Core category demands are:

  • Military and agazi forces has to leave Oromia.
  • Our question is full freedom sooner than later, but not remote controlled OPDO state.
  • Oromo’s has to be the master of their resources and polices and stop importing and expanding shadow Oromummaa in the name of OPDO.
  • The Doctor of Oromia is Oromummaa but not tigruma.
  • Stopping harassing Oromo’s in their country, work place and home.
  • The prisoners has to be free
  • Stopping hunting Oromo intellectuals and promoting brain drain.

None of us on the earth choose to be born where we are born but once born, for example in my case, as an Oromo, there is no way I can change it. Unlike religion, behavior and attitudes towards nature, ethnic belongingness cannot be changed. That is why I cannot stop reminding at every chance I got the international community, TPLF elite and their puppet collaborators that as an Oromo, I am oppressed and I want my freedom and equality. The collaborators and traitors proposing us to give our left cheek after TPLF slap us on the right, but my answer is first I will never let you slap me and if at all it happens, I will slap you back even harder. That is a simple formula of defending our right but not through mutilated OPDO ways, incapacitated and nihil individual propaganda or buying ground or house around Finfinnee and every year visiting  colonialist sky-reach building.

When TPLF fought to colonize Oromo’s and other nations in Ethiopian empire not through investment plan and lousy approach to Mengistu Hailemariam.  They colonize Oromo’s and other nations “through total destruction tactic and strategy”, their nick name was “ dildy afrash”.  So Yesterday TPLF was master of destruction and currently they call themselves surprisingly champion of development. My message to the traitors of Oromo people and collaborators of TPLF stop sending and propagating enemy destructive message and stand for freedom and equality at any cost.

We the Oromo people are  a victim of the system which the TPLF trying to defend at all cost on the international stage and protect by his mechanized military around Oromia and therefore TPLF and their collaborators will be disappointed with my analysis. That is not what I enjoy to do but I have no choice because the TPLF government is violating our fundamental human rights. The Oromo leaders and the Oromo people simply want to enjoy their fundamental human rights be it civil and political, economic, social and cultural among which the right to self-determination is the most advocated.

Let me clear again: Everybody who are defending the TPLF ruling system are our enemy (TPLF itself, collaborators, traitors). While the old elites are trying to restore the dead oppressive system once again and the TPLF is try to protect and prevail the current totally destructive and unhuman oppressive system, the Oromo’s are still fighting for the same question of 100 years ago that is total freedom. Now tell me dear TPLF-junta and collaborators, on what ground could you think the possibility of developing love for this ugly ruling system (killers and torturers)  and plan to live with you in peace?

TPLF elite are different from other previous colonialist in the sense that they tried to use spices in contrast to the previous colonialist to justify their democratic nature, allowing  afaan oromo as the official language of courts and of instruction at schools and recognition of the Oromia state. For recognition of our country Oromia and using our language (afaan oromo) in our country is not a gift. To accomplish that we Oromo people fought a bloody fight and we sacrifice enormous life of brave sons and daughters of Oromo people.  Come on TPLF junta your disease is worsening by confusing you (brain damage), I think you are developing “ammoniacal encephalopathy” because of your decompensated cirrhosis (decaying politics like dealing with mutilated OPDO and nonproductive collaborators).

I and my fellow Oromo people are not against any nation, I am sure in any nation there are a good  person, leaders, intellectuals who  care for equality, democracy, human rights, loving and a caring family man and women but when it comes to the defence of my right, I will not give you credit for being a good person, leader, intellectuals or family person.  No one, including TPLF elite accept domination and exploitation and there is no reason on earth why the Oromo’s should be expected to give up fighting for freedom from oppression and dancing and building house with you on the grave of our hero’s.

The Oromo’s paid a heavy price to build Ethiopia but when it comes to power and money they are the last to touch the desk and when it comes to the human-right and equality they are the first to be victim of the system.  But now the time of abuses was passed and Oromo people are getting aware of the reality and starting to build their home (Oromia). We Oromo people have no intention whatsoever to violate anybody rights to the contrary we will fight for them to be respected and we expect the same from other nations those we fight for their freedom.

Victory to the Oromo people!

Oromia Pastoralist Association (OPA)

Extreme weather and droughts have historically brought the Borena and Gabra pastoral tribes into conflict over pasture land, water, and natural resources. The Oromia Pastoralist Association (OPA) was created to facilitate the cross-border mobility of pastoralist tribes between Southern Ethiopia and Northern Kenya and is helping to address land disputes, resource conflicts, and the barriers these vulnerable groups face to coping with climate change. The association pursues peaceful coexistence and now has a track record of three consecutive years without a single community conflict. Cross-border community dialogue and the co-creation of conflict resolution strategies, including ‘reciprocal resource use agreements’, are helping to reduce overgrazing and soil erosion, improve market access for pastoralist products, and build resilience to climate-related stresses. The model has the potential to be transferred to neighboring regions where resource and water scarcity are growing challenges, and has already been replicated in Somalia.

Soreti B Kadir
Big ups to Ogaden and Oromo folks for holding it down today in Canberra, forcing the cancellation of the Ethiopian delegations meeting with *i don’t really know who, nor do I particularly. To disrupt business as usual is huge work, to do so successfully is a huge win. Much power to all that stood up today. I write to share that the grapevine has it that they are to show again, in Melbourne, tomorrow.
Word is as follows:
Master killers Oromia president mukhtar keder ,Tigray president and Somali zone president Muhammad Omer are here in Melbourne TOMORROW @ 12pm, 85 Henry st St. Albans.
these niggaz are here to collect $$ from diasporas to kill more Qeerro/students
Come and let’em know
– the Dream
An opportunity to confront these men with the reality of the power they are here to represent. On land that is also stolen.
All opposers of state sanctioned violence against its people, mass imprisonment of the innocent, the ravaging of indigenous land, the killing of student protestors and tyrant powers/so-called governments (the list goes on) are most welcome to join. For what exactly, who the hell knows.
That is all.

Rights Commission Declares Measures Against Protesters in Oromia “Proportional”, Admits Excessive Force Used Against Qimant People

Kalkidan Yibeltal

(Addis Standard) — The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, (EHRC), a government body which was investigating killings, maiming, arrests and forced disappearances of protesters in Oromia regional state following a five month region wide civil resistance, declared that security measures taken against protesters were “proportional.”

Contrary to its report on Oromia, however, the commission admitted disproportional “excessive forces” were taken against the Qimant people in North Gondar zone of the Amhara regional state.

In a report it presented to the national parliament yesterday, the commission put the number of deaths in Oromia at 173 including 28 security personnel and government officials. However, the number is a lot less than the numbers local and international human rights activists have reported in the midst of the protest, which broke out on Nov. 12, 2015.

Activists of #OromoProtests, as it became known as, say they have documented the death of more than 400 civilians, forced disappearances of hundreds and the detentions of thousands of protesters during the five month intensive civil resistance against the government. The protest, the fiercest of its kind since the coming into power of the incumbent in 1991, engulfed almost the entire Oromia, the largest regional state in Ethiopia, and involved huge numbers of the population in the region – from school children to elderly farmers.

In addition to the number of death, the commission also declared measures taken by the government’s security forces to control the protests as “proportional.”

In a press conference this morning at the Hilton hotel, Dr. Addisu G/Egziaber, EHRC commissioner, rejected claims that the report lacked impartiality and credibility. Asked if the controversial presence of the federal army, federal police forces and intelligence aggravated the situation, he responded “if they hadn’t intervened, things would have been a lot worse.”

Birhanu Abadi, head of public relations at the commission, on his part said that, “in our investigation we found out that the measures taken by the security forces were appropriate and proportional and without it things might have completely gotten out of control and the calamities would have been even more atrocious.”

The commissioner further said that the report identified the root causes of the protests as legitimate public grievances due to lack of good governance. But Birhanu asserted that “although the questions raised were legitimate and constitutional, they were hijacked by groups with anti-peace elements.”

It is not clear if the report, which was not given to the media this morning, included details about forced disappearances and the incarcerations of thousands of protesters into temporary detention facilities. Asked by the media this morning, neither the commissioner, nor the PR head gave any detail.

However, it is known that other than those who have been detained without due legal process, prosecutors have charged several dozens of individuals, including leading opposition members, university students, teachers and civil servants with the country’s infamous Anti-Terrorism Proclamation (ATP).

Protests first flared up in April-May 2014 by Oromo university students who protested against the making of a new Master Plan for Addis Abeba and its environs, which is believed to cause the displacements of thousands of Oromo farmers from their lands and which many legal experts say was prepared in clear violation of the country’s constitution.

It is also not clear if the report included other forms of measures taken by the government against protesters such as the dismissal from several universities of countless numbers of Oromo students who are accused of instigating violence.

Excessive force

On the other hand the commission admitted that security forces in Northern Gondar zone of the Amhara regional state have used “excessive forces” following a protest by the Qimant people related to their question of identity.

The report said that more than 95 civilians as well as members of the security were killed during a protest  that flared up in Nov. 2015.

In the face of lack of adequate information (and will) by the media, little is said about the Qimant case. However, theEthiopian News Agency reported in January that “the conflict that arose between Amhara and Qimant community in north Gondar zone, Amhara Regional State… resulted from delay in border demarcation [and] the identity question of the Qimant people.

“The constitution is well equipped to entertain identity questions like the ones raised by the Qimant so the riots were regrettable”, said Addisu.

Even though the commission claims its investigation of both protests was done in “free, impartial and professionally disciplined” manner, many activists and political commentators are rebuffing it as biased and politically motivated.

‪#‎OromoProtests‬ about 20 Tigrean supporters of the regime attacked an Oromo man named Firrisa while he was walking alone towards the rally in Melbourne. Do you really want play such violent game? Think again and think carefully. The diaspora has been quite self-restraining and avoiding violence so far. If the regime’s supporters escalate there is n guarantee community leaders can continue to restrain angry protesters from retaliating in kind. Therefore, the Tigrean diaspora must think again.
